A Fun Rumba for Nylon String Guitar Students

The rumba is one of the most exciting rhythms to play on acoustic guitar. It's a rhythm that is pretty familiar to the "western ear" as opposed to many flamenco forms that follow a much more complicated rhythmic structure. In my decades of teaching guitar, I have composed many studies for students that allow us to practice some essential techniques while also giving us something fun to play. Check out my upper-intermediate level rumba study called El Espejismo - this one is made primarily for working on slurs but I've include three different kinds of rasgueo (the e-a-m-i 4 stroke, the a-m-i-i 4 stroke and the p-m-p "triplet rasgueo"). Notice also the intro arpeggio pattern which follows the 3–3–2 rumba accents:
